Aspirational tracks in the martial arts gym, warming-up of athletes from different regions of Russia, last instructions from coaches who have devoted their whole lives to great sports: the national sambo competitions among students of the zonal stage “Cup of Student Sambo League” have started at USUE.

Today, the USUE sports complex is not just a place for training in various sports. This is a “magnet” for athletes from different regions. Guests from Perm Krai  and Primorsky Krai, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan, Tyumen, Saratov, Vladimir, Arkhangelsk, and Penza regions came to the national sambo competitions, which are held at the university as part of the Eurasian Economic Forum. And, of course, Sverdlovsk athletes also take part in the competition.

“It is not for nothing that sambo is present at the Eurasian Economic Youth Forum. Sambo is a part of our culture, being a symbol of the sports life of the Russian Federation. You are representatives of a strong, mighty, intellectual sport. Today, I wish everyone to show the best qualities on the carpet. Good luck!” Elena Lomakina, executive director of the Association “Student Sports Sambo League”, said at the grand opening.

Sambo is an effective sport that helps uplevel physical fitness. However, according to the representatives of “women’s” sambo, they go to training not only for strength building.

“We have been practicing judo for two years and we are members of the UrFU judo and sambo team,” the participants of the competitions Angelina Lapchaan and Victoria Mironenko say. “This year our coach offered us to test skills in sambo. Physical education is tied to it, maybe that’s why we paid attention to sambo. We train mainly for general physical preparedness and for the ability to hold our own.”

The concept of sambo means self-defense or wrestling without weapons. How beautiful, powerful and diverse our national sport can look on the carpet was shown by Ivan Panyukhin, the winner of the world championship, the owner of the World Cup, the winner of the Russian Cup, the winner of the Russian Championship, and Ivan Nikulin, the silver medalist of the World Championship, silver medalist of the Russian Cup, bronze medalist of the championship of Russia.

The national sambo competitions among students of the zonal stage, “Student Sambo League Cup,” are held as part of the XIII Eurasian Economic Youth Forum. It should be noted that the winners and prize-winners of the competitions will receive a certificate of the XIII EEYF laureate and upon admission to USUE for full-time bachelor’s degree, they will be awarded 5 extra points for individual achievements, and for full-time master’s degree - 2 points for individual achievements.
