Education is a driver of integration
On April 24, as part of the XIV Eurasian Economic Youth Forum, the organizers held a forum of university rectors. The meeting took place at the residence of the Governor of the Sverdlovsk region. The participants were 55 representatives of universities from 10 countries. The organizer of the large-scale event was Ural State University of Economics.
USUE rector Yakov Silin welcomed the participants:
“Cooperation between universities that are represented in the Eurasian space is developing in a bilateral format. Universities of the EurAsEC countries are our strategic partners. We implement joint educational programs. Today, over 65 thousand students are studying economics in Russia. Young people see prospects for development in this direction.”
Deputy Governor of the region, Vasily Kozlov, addressed the participants of the rectors’ forum. He noted that openness to cooperation and exchange of experience is a key principle of regional educational policy.
“Sverdlovsk universities, with the support of the regional government, apply the best educational practices, create new internationally oriented programs, introduce project-based learning and individual educational trajectories. The development of international humanitarian cooperation in education is among the priority areas of the region’s activities,” Vasily Kozlov said.
At the round table, participants in the rectors’ forum discussed different issues: developing of scientific journals, formation and work of dissertation councils in the Eurasian space, involving foreign youth in educational and research programs at Russian universities, cooperation in the humanitarian sphere in the Eurasian Economic Union, the role of universities in implementing sustainable development programs.
For many years of fruitful cooperation, the title “Honorary Professor of USUE” was awarded to Gulnora Abdurakhmanova, vice-rector for research and innovation of Tashkent State University of Economics.
Within the rectors’ forum, they signed cooperation agreements between USUE and universities in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka and Iraq:
From now on, USUE and the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry (Uzbekistan) will conduct joint scientific research, organize and participate in international educational projects.
An agreement was reached on the joint development and implementation of educational and scientific programs, academic mobility of students and teaching staff with Kostanay Engineering and Economic University, named after M. Dulatov (Kazakhstan).
“We have been cooperating with USUE for over five years and this agreement means a new round of development in our interaction in education,” Madiyar Yunusov, the president of Kostanay Engineering and Economic University, named after M. Dulatov, noted.
Besides, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the University of Sri Jayewardenepura i of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Ural State University of Economics on additional general education programs in Russian and English.
USUE concluded a memorandum of understanding via a video link with Wasit University (Iraq). The document involves holding of training workshops for teachers and students, exchange and training of students and postgraduates.
The rectors’ forum within the framework of the XIV EEYF joined in productive dialogue 55 heads of universities from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka, Belarus, Tajikistan, China, Azerbaijan, Iraq, and government officials.
