The international competition of scientific student articles “Modern economic theory and development of society: fundamental and interdisciplinary research” is held by the Ural State University of Economics (Ural State University of Economics) in collaboration with the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences).

The organizer of the competition is the Institute of Economics and Finance of the USUE and the Department of Economic Theory and Applied Sociology. 

The purpose of the Competition is the creation of an information platform for students to exchange opinions and experience in the field of solving economic problems from the perspective of various schools and directions, in particular, neoclassical economics and current trends in heterodox economic theory, consideration of the prospects for the interaction of modern economics with the achievements of psychological, legal, mathematical, and sociological sciences . 

Objectives of the Competition:

  • attracting the attention of young people to the new requirements placed on specialists in the context of increasing complexity of scientific knowledge and growing demand for interdisciplinary approaches to solving social problems;
  • generalization of various areas of practical application of modern economic theory;
  • generalization of problems and development of recommendations on the possibility of using the theoretical provisions of modern economic science in the analysis and assessment of real socio-economic processes and phenomena. 

Participants in the Competition are undergraduate, specialist and master's students from Russia and the CIS countries under the age of 35.

Scientific articles for the Competition can only be submitted by individual authors. 

Scientific articles are submitted to the Competition in the following  fields:

  1. Current issues of modern economic theory.
  2. Macroeconomic analysis.
  3. Behavioral economics and economic psychology.
  4. Economic sociology.
  5. Economic analysis of law. 

Applications for participation in the Competition and competition articles must be submitted before March 20, 2024 through the website registration system.

The list of competition finalists invited to defend their works in person and to participate in the final events of the Forum will be published on the competition page from 1 to April 10, 2024

The in-person defense will take place on April 25, 2024 from 10:30 to 15:30, the award ceremony will take place on April 26, 2024. 

The final will be held in person; in some cases, by decision of the competition organizing committee, remote participation is possible.

Registered participants and experts gain access to USUE cloud resources based on the MS Office 365 platform and connect to interactive sessions during events through teams created in MicrosoftTeams. 

The winners and runners-up of the Competition are awarded diplomas, orders and cash prizes:

  • 15,000 rubles - for 1st place
  • 10,000 rubles - for 2nd place
  • 5,000 rubles - for 3rd place 

Finalists who took 4th and 5th places are awarded with certificates. 

To the winners of the Competition, awarded with I degree Diploma, points are awarded for individual achievements upon admission to USUE master's programs (2 points). 

Based on the results of the final events, it is planned to release materials from the XIV EEFM, where articles by the Competition finalists will be posted. The materials will be posted in the RSCI and on the website of the Ural State Economic University.
