International competition of scientific students articles «Modern economic theory and social development: fundamental and interdisciplinary research»

The international competition of scientific articles among students "Fundamental and Interdisciplinary Research in Economics" is organized by the Ural State University of Economics in cooperation with the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The organizers of the competition are the USUE Institute of Economics and Finance, as well as the Department of Economic Theory and Applied Sociology. 

The goal of the competition is to create a platform for students to share their opinions and experiences in solving economic problems from different perspectives, including neoclassical economic theories and current trends in heterodox economic thought. It also aims to explore the potential for collaboration between modern economics and other scientific disciplines such as psychology, law, mathematics, and sociology.

Objectives of the Competition:

The aim of the competition is to attract the attention of young researchers to the new challenges facing specialists in the field of science and technology, as well as to promote interdisciplinary approaches in addressing social issues.

The competition aims to generalize various practical applications of modern economic theories and to develop guidelines for the use of these theories in analyzing and assessing real-world socio-economic phenomena. 

Participation in the competition is open to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students from Russia and other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Articles submitted for the competition must be original works by individual authors. 

Scientific articles are submitted for the Competition in the following fields:

1. History of economic studies: Analysis of the works of economists and scientific movements (schools), formation of economic thought in different countries and regions, current trends and challenges of modern economic theory.

2. Theory and methodology of economics: Review of the essence of key economic categories and principles, development of economic models (economic growth, consumer behaviour, equilibrium analysis, etc.), analysis of advantages and disadvantages of various theoretical approaches in contemporary economics.

3. Behavioural economics and economic psychology: Research into models of behavioural economic theory, stages of its evolution, analysis of cognitive biases, household financial behaviour, and capital market analysis based on the principles of behavioural finance.

4. Economic Sociology: Concepts of Analysis of Socio-Economic Processes, Development of the Theory of Sociological Analysis; Applied Research on the Socio-Demographic Characteristics of a Modern Russian Entrepreneur; Analysis of the Impact of Demographic Changes on the Development of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses; Analysis of Socio-economic Problems of Society (Poverty, Income, Welfare, Wages, etc.); Economic Interests of Different Groups of the Population

5. Modern Problems of Economic Systems Development: Theories of Economic Development, Technological Structures; The Role of Knowledge and the Process of Cognition in Human Activity and the Formation of Needs; Value Paradigm of Development; Philosophy of Economy; Industry 5.0; Digitalization of the Economy; Integration of Production, Science, and Education. 

Applications for participation in the competition and competitive articles must be submitted by March 20, 2025, through the registration system on the website.

The list of finalists invited for full-time presentation of their work and participation in the final events of the forum will be published from April 1 to 10, 2025 on the competition webpage.

The finals will take place in person in April 2025. In some cases, remote participation may be possible by decision of the competition organizing committee. 

Winners and prize-winners will be awarded with diplomas and cash prizes:

  • 15,000 rubles for first place
  • 10,000 rubles for second place
  • 5,000 rubles for third place

Finalists who take fourth and fifth places will also receive diplomas.

Winners of the competition awarded with a first-degree diploma will receive additional points for individual achievement when applying for master's programs at USUE (2 points). 

Based on the results of the final events, a collection of materials from the XV EEYF is planned to be released. This collection will feature the articles submitted by the finalists in the competition. The collection will be made available on the RSCI (Russian Science Citation Index) and on the website of Ural State University of Economics.
